Season of Serving

Each fall/winter, GEN U coordinates our annual Season of Serving! This initiative is marked by fun, holiday-themed volunteer opportunities scheduled on evenings, weekends, and during the lunch hour throughout November and December. All volunteer opportunities benefit Heart of Illinois United Way partner agencies. GEN U members (and their friends, family, or coworkers) and any interested young professionals are invited to join us!

How to Participate: Please take a look at our volunteer opportunities for this 2018 holiday season and click to register for any of the opportunities you’re interested in!

December 3rd and 4th: Peoria Public Schools Horizon’s Club - The Peoria Public Schools Foundation’s Horizons Club is a lunchtime educational opportunity for middle school students in Peoria Public Schools.  The intent of this program is to facilitate opportunities for students to investigate various industries and occupations which will allow them to make more informed choices during middle school, high school class selection, and beyond. There are multiple days and times to sign up for!

December 2nd: Neighborhood House: Santa for Seniors - Meet at Neighborhood House at 10:00 A.M. to pick up gift bags and choose different areas to deliver to. Santa for Seniors is a program to visit isolated seniors and deliver a gift bag this holiday season! Registration closes on November 30th.

December 8th: Tazewell County Resource Center: Pancake and Pictures with Santa Breakfast - TCRC is hosting their 2nd Annual Pancakes & Pictures with Santa event on Saturday, December 8th from 8am-12pm and would love to have some strikingly elf-ish volunteers to help with set-up of the event, serving breakfast, assisting with pictures, busing tables if need be and then those to help with clean-up afterwards.

December 18th: Salvation Army Toy Shop Volunteers - Salvation Army needs volunteers in the main area to assist with helping the clients shop the tables, as well as, volunteers to man the tables and keep them organized and full. We also need volunteers to assist "behind the scenes" by breaking down unused boxes, consolidating toys into boxes to make room for more, and also helping clients to their car with their toys.
